Are Your SaaS Apps Out of Control?

Saas, or Software as a Service, has been around for decades, but has grown more widely used since the emergence of cloud computing. The process of accessing an application over the internet is now accepted as a cost-effective and secure way of gaining all the benefits of sophisticated new technologies without the overhead needed to implement and maintain them.

At TTI we understand the convenience and added value of SaaS, which is why we offer it for our WinBill® and WinCall® telemanagement software solutions. It makes it easier for clients to acquire and manage, knowing that we are maintaining the software regularly without the need for any backend intervention by their employees.

Because it is so easy to access these SaaS applications, usage can become challenging to control. Subscriptions to apps no longer being used can automatically renew. Employees may download and install application on the fly without informing the IT department. Management can quickly lose track of "who is using what" in an operational setting that has become overly distributed with less central control. This can also bring a greater vulnerability for cyberattacks.

As with any computing environment, optimizing SaaS for your end users requires the establishment of access and usage protocols with IT heading the effort.

Tech Target recently published some great tips to help IT departments gain greater control over SaaS while providing end users with flexibility and options. We've summarized those tips as follows:

SaaS is an efficient way to deliver a wide range of powerful tools to organizations without the implementation and maintenance headaches. To maximize that power, however, SaaS must be properly managed through clear protocols, employee collaboration, strong cybersecurity measures, and ongoing review. Doing so creates an environment that enables companies to access groundbreaking software tools through the cloud, saving time and company resources while fueling greater productivity.
