By now you've probably read a number of prediction articles. Some are really out there, especially those making predictions for 2020 and beyond. There is the one from Fortune Magazine predicting that in 2016 Apple will buy Tesla as part of their plan to build an electric car. Whether you believe this stuff or not, it's all part of the fun.
Here are a couple from IDC that, if they come to pass, will impact your department and your company. They touch on our use of the cloud, platform technologies and Digital Transformation, or DX, as it's commonly referred to. You can read the full article here. Just to name a couple:
- By the end of 2017 over 50% of IT spending will be for third platform technologies, such as cloud, mobile, and big data analytics.
- Also by the end of 2017 two thirds of the CEOs of global 2000 companies will center their corporate strategies around DX.
IDC's chief analyst Frank Gens even issued a terse warning to companies that they must "transform or die".
