For those who missed TTI's Charles Coakley in last month's AOTMP webinar on "Telecom Reporting and Business Analysis" we'll share some unsettling stats that AOTMP collected in a survey with telecom/IT folks. And, we've added our "take" on each one.
74% are still using spreadsheets (e.g. Excel, Access, Google Sheets) to report on telecom usage.
Two problems with this approach. First, employees are busy. It takes up valuable time to manage a reporting process that should be automated. Second, it increases the risk of human error. Either way, yesterday's methods are being used to tackle today's multi-faceted communications usage and management challenges. Not a good idea.
56% are not consolidating their data from various systems into one location for reporting.
Here is another missed opportunity for comprehensive reporting. During Charles' portion of the AOTMP webinar, he mentioned not only the importance of pulling all data together, but also the importance of integrating your TEM with other key data feeds, such as call accounting. That's how you get a true 360 degree view of usage. Continuing to maintain separate silos of information requires more time and effort to blend together. This is so yesterday.
45% of telecom reports are still being produced on an ad-hoc basis versus standardized.
Producing ad hoc reports each month is like starting from scratch each month. By tapping into the unique needs of your stakeholders in advance, you can devise a set of standardized reports that hit on key touchpoints. Once standardized, your human input can be used more strategically. Better use of human capital we think.
It takes an average of 9.6 business days out of every month to complete a standard telecom reporting cycle.
Wow, it's no wonder, given the lack of integration, centralized databases and ad hoc reporting.
It takes an average of 3.7 people to facilitate a standard monthly telecom reporting cycle.
That's two too many! With today's technologies, managing your monthly telecom cycle should no longer be a human or time intensive process. A little added planning on the front end to understand the needs of your user community will save time and resources on the back end. Now it's your turn.
- Where do you fit within the above statistics?
- Are you producing more ad hoc reports than standardized reports?
- Are you using antiquated spreadsheets to do the job of a fully automated data collection and reporting engine?
And, finally, how many people and hours is it taking your team to produce a set of monthly telecom reports?
Don't take these metrics sitting down.
If you are less than 100% satisfied with your own set of processes used to provide meaningful and useful monthly telecom reports, then we can help. We understand your world.
