Network World recently released it's annual "Top 10 Challenges IT Faces" article. As usual, it has some interesting insight. Perhaps not surprisingly, however, is the fact that many of the issues are the same ones IT/Telecom faced five years ago! The uncomfortable fact is that many IT/Telecom departments have struggled to keep pace with the needs of their end users and emerging enabling technologies.
Here are the top 5 issues from the article:
Not enough IT people on staff
Budgets are not sufficient to meet goals
Don't have the right IT skills
Can't implement fast enough to meet business goals
Lack IT infrastructure capacity
What's interesting is that all the above challenges are, to a major extent, the result of lack of sufficient budget. At TTI we deal with this issue on a regular basis. The problem is that many IT professionals continue to operate in a "business as usual" manner, hoping that, somehow, more funding will drift their way. What happens instead is that they continue to be ignored by those in their organizations who approve the budgets and regard IT/Telecom as a necessary cost, and little else.
How to get out of the rut and move forward?First, ask yourself what you are doing to run as efficiently as possible. Ask yourself if your department is leaving money on the table due to bad contracts, poor inventory management, lack of visibility over invoices and other operational issues that impede innovation and progress. Clean up your inventory, contracts and processes and you might be surprised at how much money comes your way.
The good news is that, for over thirty years, TTI has been helping IT/Telecom departments become more efficient and effective while saving significant money, usually between 25-40% off their annual telecom spend. So, if any of the top 5 issues above ring a bell for your organization, the end of the year is a great time to contact us. Our team of professionals can help you set your department up for a successful 2018.
